Will sirius join google and apple to lock in the complete media hardware, distribution and subscription triad it is. Because it is there a little preset hiding in the itunes genre settings for sirius radio I saw.
Really at this point I have to say the only way sirius xm will survive, after being crippled by the the NAB while trying to merge, is if they unlock themselves from producing their own prioritized hardware. the market being what it is, and their current closed system which relies heavily on the auto industry to distribute their system isn't going to work.
the only logical step is for them to open their system up to subscriptions distributed to other devices. the best distribution method being to have howard stern distributed via itunes. and while they're at it, howard stern's version of hurdy gurdy man could be avilable on itunes for download.
The itunes setting I mentioned above provides for categorizing sirius radio shows. apple doesn't provide sirius radio currently, there is no way to download sirius radio from the itunes store. yet the preset is sitting in the program for some reason. there is no xm preset, xm being the other satellite radio provider. I am certain sirius will swallow xm whether or not the merger is allowed, they've already made public their plans to provide a combined service.
so the question is would you pay to subscribe to howard on itunes and listen on the ipod? would you purchase the howard stern show from itunes if it's available? How about howard's Hurdy Gurdy Man?
